FAQ Pools
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for Summer Smiles® pool products are available upon request. Please contact our team directly through the Contact Us page to obtain the official documentation for each product.
Most pool maintenance products have a shelf life of approximately 2 years when stored properly. For specific product details or confirmation of shelf life, we recommend contacting our team through the Contact Us page.
Calcium hardness in pool water refers to the amount of dissolved calcium in the water. It is measured in ppm (parts per million) and plays a key role in maintaining proper water balance and protecting pool equipment.
If calcium hardness is too low, the water can become corrosive. If it’s too high, it can lead to scale buildup. For swimming pools, the recommended range is 200 to 300 ppm.
To increase calcium hardness, the use of CALCIUM + is recommended.
Green pool water is usually caused by the presence of algae. This can result from imbalanced water chemistry, prolonged exposure to sunlight, debris such as pollen or leaves, heavy rainfall, or insufficient filtration.
To correct the issue, first check your water parameters, ensure proper and continuous filtration, and use an appropriate algaecide to eliminate algae and restore clear water.

Did you know?
Algae can appear in different colors, including green, yellow, pink, or black. However, green and black algae are the most common types found in swimming pools.

Cloudy pool water is often caused by chemical imbalance, organic debris buildup, or poor filtration.
Start by checking and adjusting your water parameters, clean the filter and cartridges, and use a clarifier to help the filter capture fine paricles.

The Soft pool product is specially formulated with different boron compounds, such as boric acid and borax, to improve bather comfort. It works in two ways. First, it helps maintain the pH at an ideal level to maximize the effectiveness of sanitizing products. Second, Soft provides a silky feel on the skin and helps reduce skin and eye irritation.
It also helps reduce the formation of scale deposits and the development of algae in the pool.
If your pool water is too alkaline, test the water to confirm the level. The recommended range is 80 to 120 ppm.
To lower high alkalinity, add an alkalinity reducer such as pH-, run the filtration system, and test again until the recommended level is reached.
Recommended product: pH –
The ideal pool water temperature is between 26 °C and 28 °C (78 °F to 82 °F) for optimal comfort.
For heated or recreational pools, the water can be slightly warmer, up to 30 °C (86 °F), depending on activity and swimmer preference.
During periods of extreme heat, it is recommended not to heat the water above 28 to 30 °C (82 to 86 °F), to test the water more frequently, to increase filtration time, and to limit sun exposure when the pool is not in use in order to maintain water quality and swimmer comfort.
The Summer Smiles pool algaecide product line includes several products, each with different characteristics.
ALG OUT 15% and ALG OUT 40% are based on quaternary ammonium active ingredients. The 40% concentrated version requires a smaller dose for the same effect. Both algaecides are generally better suited for preventive treatment and are also effective for correcting green algae. Using excessive amounts of these products may cause foaming on the water surface.
ALG OUT ULTRA 60%, on the other hand, is based on a more advanced technology—polyquats. This product is non foaming, more concentrated, and effective against all types of algae (green, yellow, and black), both for preventive and corrective treatments.
ALG OUT ULTRA 3-IN-1 is a solid algaecide based on quaternary ammonium technology. Its pre-dosed, slow-release solid form allows safer handling while remaining easy to use and store. In addition to preventing algae growth, it improves filtration and helps maintain water temperature by creating a liquid solar cover. This reduces water evaporation and helps retain heat, especially overnight.

No. While non-chlorine shock treatments, such as SALT SHOK ULTRA and SHOK ULTRA, can help break down organic matter, keep the water clear, and reduce sanitizer use, a chlorine- or bromine-based sanitizer must still be used. Maintaining recommended sanitizer levels is essential to prevent the growth of bacteria, algae, or biofilms.
